ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1361504. Bbl. 24". Star gauge marked behind front sight "SA" flaming bomb "11-29". Rifle appears to be a National Match model. The receiver has polished bolt way and tiny punch mark in the right rail. Gas hole in right side of receiver. The ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards is marked "R" on the ladder and moveable base. The rifle is equipped with a Lyman Model 48 rear sight. The sight parts are all matching. Slide graduated to 125 points. Target type screw in sight aperture with adjustable iris. Stock is cut for sight base. The front sight moveable base has been replaced with a vintage Lyman target globe sight equipped aperture disk. Bolt with swept handle is marked "NS" on top and "7" underneath. Bolt is electric penciled to match and appears to be subject to a degree of hand fitting. Single small gas escape hole. Cocking piece with standard knob is marked "CV". Safety is not reversed. All milled furniture including trigger guard. Grooved trigger. C Type walnut stock set with 2 recoil bolts. Stock has faint boxed "D.A.L." on left side over trigger guard and encircled "P" proof under grip. Marked "S" in cutoff recess. Buttstock has hand stamped S# ahead of butt swivel. Buttplate has been replaced with checkered cast aluminum target type giving a LOP approx. 13 3/4". This buttplate appears to replace the issued plate without stock modification. Brown leather Model 1907 type sling. CONDITION: stock set has a professional refinish with added finish leaving the inspector's mark faint except where polished metal retains a large amount of lightly worn original blue. Bore is bright and shiny but lands show light wear. PROVENANCE: from the Lifelong Collection of Jim Williams. (24-2706/RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
