ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1403188. Bbl. 24". Star gauged. Star marking is at 6 o'clock position on muzzle. Marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 4-32". This National Match Springfield rifle uses a receiver dated 1931. The receiver w/ its polished rails has a faint punch mark mid-way between the receiver ring & bridge on the right rail. The top of the follower is polished. Ladder aperture rear sight graduated to 2,850 yards without volley notch. Front sight movable base has been replaced by a Lyman globe sight assembly with an aperture installed. The cutoff has been replaced with a Pacific Model S1 adj. aperture sight without click adjustment. The cutoff has been modified to clear the sight. Stock has been lightly modified at the forward edge of the cutoff recess to accommodate this sight. Nickel steel bolt w/ bright body & extractor is marked "7" under the swept bolt handle. Bolt body is electro-penciled to match the rifle. Bolt has single small gas port at bottom. Safety is standard type (non-reversed). All milled furniture including deeply checkered trap buttplate & grooved trigger. Matching "C" type walnut stock set. Buttstock is marked w/ boxed "DAL". Two numbers are visible between rear swivel and end of pistol grip. One, which is very faint, appears as "736906". The second is the rifle's serial number. Encircled "P" proof under grip. CONDITION: Pacific rear sight is notably loose on the spindle & the cutoff, while functional, does not appear to be well-executed & utilizes only the spring to engage the detents. Stock set has nice appearance w/ added finish over the original w/ light wear & scattered handling marks throughout. Metal has the arsenal quality dull blue finish w/ notable thinning & wear. Upper band appears to be parkerized. Stacking swivel is bent. Very good shiny bore. (25-2844RW). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
