MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3067078. Bbl. 24". Marked behind front sight "RA / flaming bomb / 3-42". These rifles were produced by Remington using machinery from Rock Island Arsenal. This rifle has features suggested by Remington to expedite construction including the receiver tang hole drilled through, sight base w/o lightning cuts & slightly coarser wartime finish. Ladder rear sight w/o volley notch graduated to 2850 yards. Blade front sight w/ 2 piece base. Remington marked bolt assembly & cutoff. All milled furniture including smooth trap buttplate. "S" type walnut stock set. Buttstock marked on left side w/ "RLB". Marked under grip w/ circle "P" proof. Handguard appears to be replacement. Brown leather Model 1907 sling marked "BOYT" & "42". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: buttstock has well-worn arsenal rework finish w/ numerous handling marks & slight loss of wood in inletted areas. Metal retains 80% arsenal rework Parkerized finish. Shiny 4 groove bore w/ moderately worn lands. PROVENANCE: from the collection of Mark Ivey Godfrey. (24-5245/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
