14" curved blade, once decorated with blue & gold, double sea serpent quillons, solid brass repoussé engraved sheath, large raised anchor in center of cross guard & sheath, rectangular rosewood grip covered with leather on 3 sides. Jerry Roxbury, US Naval historian opines that dirk was made for American market and most unique design, the scabbard decoration is reminiscent of Widmann of Philadelphia. CONDITION: good to very good overall, blade is gray with only tiny hints of decoration, brass sheath, pommel, & crossguard have dark uncleaned patina. Originally a chain was attached between bulbous pommel and one quillon is long missing. (02-22837/JS). $700-900.
