PROTOTYPE PARTS BY RICH MACDONALD OF PHROBUS TO GLENN MATTOX. Mickey Finn & Commander Tom Coulter was looking for vendors special "prototype equipment" for SEAL team missions. The company name Phrobis was an alteration by Mickey Finn for Coulter's choice word play of "Phrobus". As stated in the book "M9" The Commander's most famous quote is "This is a Clustor Phrobus". The logo for Phrobis was a dolphin influenced by the Seal Team & US Navy research during the 1950's. During the 1980's, the Navy seals were examining designs for an issue knife. Phrobis III USA developed this knife for the SPECWAR community. This knife has the appearance of the Combat Utility Knife CUK Variation 1, however no "teeth" on spine. An example of this blade is on page 218 of "M9 the Authorized History". The 5 3/8" blade of 425M stainless steel, 57 plus hardness has a matte finish w/ small dolphin Phrobis logo & tall double beveled false edge. Milled & textured hollow Zytel handle. Sheath made of Zytel. 420 Stainless Steel crossguard & pommel. Pommel retained by allen head screw. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a signed letter from Richard Neyman, the author of "M9 the Authorized History" to Glenn Mattox detailing the specifics of this knife. CONDITION: Knife has a near excellent overall appearance w/ light black staining on blade contours w/ contact w/ zytel scabbard. Scabbard in near excellent condition.
