ALFRED HUNTER BOWIE KNIFE. This exact knife is featured on full page 238 in Jim Johnston's "ACCOUTREMENTS IV" 16.25" overall, 10.75" clip point blade, 3" sharpened clip. Blade is stamped "S. JACKSON" in same font known on his surgical tools circa 1845. Samuel Jackson advertised that he would "put blades in handles". It is amazing that a service like this would be required, but in this era, many men carried fighting knives. There is one other re-bladed Alfred Hunter distinctive carved ivory handled bowie, but that blade is unmarked. This is a very special knife that is feature article in the "Antique Bowie Knife Assn" bulletin No. 2, 2013. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Copies of pertinent page from "Accoutrements IV" and copied pages from ABKA journal #2 2013 featuring this bowie. CONDITION: very good overall, blade is cleaned with small nicks in cutting edge and chipped point. The original Alfred Hunter sheath is also fine missing frog button. Grip has several hairlines & one small chip and ivory patina. (02-19966/JS). $5,000-7,000.
