REVOLVER. Cal. 31. S# 2951. Bbl. 3 1/4". 9" Overall. Bbl. marked “WALCH FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW-YORK / PAT’D FEB 8, 1859”. This scarce Civil War era pistol utilized a most unusual mechanism, long 5 chamber cyl. that had 2 powder & ball charges loaded atop each other, making 10 shots. Cocking dual hammers simultaneously, single trigger pull dropped right hammer firing outer most charge in cyl. chamber, 2nd pull of trigger fired inside charge & ball. This unique arm was contract mfg. by Oliver Winchester at New Haven Arms company. Company “I” 9th Michigan Infantry bought these guns & found them satisfactory. CONDITION: good to very good overall, missing wedge otherwise appears original & complete, gray metal, no finish remains, grips retain much original factory varnish w/ heavy edge wear.
