Cal. 70. NSN. Bbl. 36 1/2". Unusual European breechloading rifle likely of Belgian or French mfg. Lock has French Mutzig arsenal markings. Right side lever allows breech loading of ammunition. No rear sight. Blade front sight. Bayonet lug present on front of bbl. French made walnut stock w/ older French roundel & "Holy water plug" on right side of butt. Bottom mounted sling swivels & three bands. Right side of stock has "MUSEE DE L'ARTL" marking likely for the French army artillery museum. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unknown European socket bayonet numbered "11215" in good condition w/ scattered pitting & oxidation. CONDITION: sanded stock has a few plug repairs, a few cracks ahead of lock, scattered dings & handling wear. Metal was polished to bright w/ scattered oxidation & light pitting. Worn rifled bore w/ scattered pitting & oxidation. PROVENANCE: From the Raymond Darida Estate. (01-22255/MJC). ANTIQUE. $1000-1500.
