SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 89018 (1973). One of the highest grade guns made by Antonio Zoli, the Volcano Record was custom made. Examples are seldom seen. This unusual gun, almost devoid of engraving, is possibly unique. It has 28" shoelump barrels with slightly raised matted concave rib. "Antonio Zoli" is gold inlaid in script on left barrel. Barrel flats are stamped with 1973 Italian nitro proofs for 2 3/4" chambers along with "106A" and grade "VR". These marks are also found on watertable of coin finished H&H type sidelock action. Action features non-automatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers with gas vents, gold line tumbler end cocking indicators and single non-selective trigger. Action is well filed and nicely polished. The only engraved decoration is a burst of small scroll on hinge pin caps and pierced and relief carved foliate scrolls on thumb piece. Plain trigger guard has S# in gold on tang. (Plain finish guns like this were often made to show off excellent gun making skills with joining of parts not hidden by engraving). Very attractive well marbled and lightly stump figured European walnut, slightly swan necked buttstock measures 14 5/8" over solid black "Old English" white line pad. Stock features drop points and point pattern grip checkering. Matching beavertail ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .724". R .724". Restriction: L .037" (extra full). R .023" (mod). Wall thickness: L .021". R .020". STOCK: DAH: 1 1/2". DAC: 1 3/16". CAST: about 1/4" off. LOP: 14 5/8". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 7 oz. CONDITION: finish very fine, mechanics fair. Metal parts retaining nearly all of their blue and coin finish with only some minor handling marks. Stocks have a few scattered marks in what appears to be their original lacquer finish. Bores are bright and shiny without noted problems. Action is tight, barrels are on face, ejectors in time, mechanical trigger appears to work well. The third fastener locking bolt is sheared off of top lever, so no bolt engages third fastener. (22-5921/MGM). MODERN. $2,200-3,000.
