BY FRANZ KETTNER. Cal. 7X57. S# 1354. The 22" pencil thin half octagon half round ribbed barrel is engraved "Firma-Franz Kettner-Coln.-Suhl" in milled out portion of matted rib. Central portion of rib is milled away forming quarter rib holding folding rear "V" notch sight and ramp for silver bead front. Rear portion of rib is marked "BOHLER" "ANTINIT" "STAHL". S# is on left flat. Top right is engraved "Kal 7x57". Small ring 98 Mauser action has been extensively lightened with side wall thinned and cut-away. Bolt handle is turned down and checkered. Unusual toggling safety is fitted to bolt shroud. Commercial bottom metal with lever to remove floorplate is fitted with double set triggers. Action and bottom metal lightly scroll engraved. Claw scope bases are fitted. Round knob buttstock of very nicely veined European walnut measures 14-1/2" over ribbed hard rubber buttplate. Stock features shadow line right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and slim schnabled tip. CONDITION: fine as refinished. Metal retaining nearly all re-blue over some pin prick pitting. Stock with good quality oil finish has a few marks. Bore is bright and shiny (re-bored to 7mm from 6.5x54, proofs on bottom of barrel). A 2" x 1/2" piece of wood has been replaced on left barrel channel. (25-5040/MGM). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
