Cal. 62 smooth bore. NSN. A total of just over 2,000 of these big bore carbines were made and many saw use by the 2nd U.S. Dragoons in the Florida campaign. It is of standard configuration with 23" round bbl. held by two pinned on bands and has triangular ramrod bayonet under bbl. Bbl. and breech are browned. Case hardened pivoting breechblock is held by catch through bottom of action and is marked "J. H. HALL" "US" "1839" at front. Breechblock features integral fence and hole through hammer. Iron mounted walnut stock has saddle ring bolted through grip. CONDITION: fine, bbl. & action retaining most of their original brown. Case hardening of breechblock is fairly strong on sides, but turning to brown on top. Stock retains most of its original oil finish with many marks and bumps. Bore is bright and shiny.
