Cal. 54. NSN. Bbl. 20 3/4". This rarely seen carbine was produced around 1857 by the Perry Patent Arms Co. of Newark, New Jersey. This style is referred to as the Navy type because of the lack of a saddle ring. Records show that, of the 150 ordered for the US Navy, only 50 were accepted and, of the 200 ordered for the Army, it is believed none were accepted. Round barrel with brass bladed front sight & stationary rear sight. This percussion single-shot breech loader is loaded by pulling downward on the trigger assembly that, in turn, pivots the breech block upward for loading. The top of the breech is marked "A.D. PERRY PATENTED" & "PERRY PATENT ARM NEWARK N.J.". A tubular magazine inside the butt stock holds 50 percussion caps that are automatically spring-fed to the nipple when the breech block is open. All iron furniture with walnut stock. CONDITION: barrel & other iron parts have an oxidized blued finish. Case-hardened breech also has a dark finish. Carbine appears mechanically fine and appears to function well. Stock has scattered minor dents & dings with a tiny loss at the left front of the butt stock. Fine bore. (01-24152/BF). ANTIQUE. $7,000-9,000.
