CLAUBERG. Overall length: 35 3/4". Blade length: 29 3/8". Etched blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. Etching includes a variety of naval, foliate, and patriotic motifs, including a small etching near the ricasso that reads "IRON PROOF". The ricasso is stamped "W. CALUBERG (knight) SOLINGEN". Gilded brass hilt with pierced oak leaf and acorn guard that includes the letters "USN". Dolphin head quillon and knuckle bow top. Oak leaf and acorn embellished pommel with an eagle and 13 stars on the cap. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass-mounted leather scabbard with dolphin drag. CONDITION: blade shows traces of original factory polish with some minor peppery staining. Hilt retains 40% of its original gilded finish. Grip and wire are complete. Scabbard mounts retain 70% of original gilding. Leather is dry and a bit flaked but remains solid and unbroken. (02-23043/BF). $750-1,000.
