A fine example of a mounted infantry officer's sword of the first quarter of the 19th century. The sword's overall length is 36" and the blade length is 31 1/4". The blade has a single large fuller and is blued over the first 15 1/2". There is gold highlighted etching that includes a spray of arms, Liberty Caps, and foliate motifs. Silvered brass reverse P hilt with a bird's head pommel. Carved bone grip with crosshatching and a decorative band. Silvered brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade is somewhat dark, but blue and gold decorations are crisp. Hilt is a bit bent but retains a portion of its original silver plated finish. Grip has a few tiny flakes and stress lines. Scabbard is dry and flaky but solid with the throat missing. (02-24522/BF). $400-700.
