Overall length: 38 3/4". Blade length: 31”. The blade has a single wide fuller with a secondary fuller near the spine. The blade is etched over the first 16” with intricate foliate motifs, a spray of arms, and a large “U.S.” The ricasso is stamped “COLLINS & CO HARTFORD CON. 1862” and engraved “S.H.G. & CO 19 Maiden Lane New York.” Gilded brass hilt with pierced guard showing foliate & floral motifs. Knuckle bow is scroll-decorated as it nears the pommel. Pommel has laurel & oak leaf decoration, along with a slightly stepped cap. Wire-wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass-mounted browned iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a light gray patina with vivid etching. Hilt shows areas of the original gilded finish. Grip is approx. 80%, but the wire is complete. Scabbard mounts show traces of original gilding. The top mount has a cutout shield on the front & back. The tip shows several shallow dents.
