Cal. 54. S# 1119. Bbl. 22 1/4". This represents the earliest incarnation of the Joslyn carbine. Approx. 1,500 were made with 1,200 being sold to the US government. The 2nd, 3rd & 4th Ohio Cavalry each received 100 of these weapons, and the 6th Ohio received 250. It was produced by A.H. Waters of Milbury, Massachusetts from 1855 to 1856. Barrel has a large triangular front sight with a long-range sight in the rear. The lock is unmarked and there is no marking on the breech lever. Brass trigger guard, buttplate & barrel band. Sling ring assembly is on the left opposite the lock. Walnut stock. CONDITION: barrel has a dark patina with remnants of bluing. Some case hardening can be discerned on the lock, breech & breech lever. Stock has 2 tight cracks near the lock and sling ring, and there is a gouge on the right side of the butt. Good bore, but could use a cleaning. (01-23166/BF). $2,500-3,000.
