A good example of a US M1860 Cavalry saber measuring 43" overall with a plain 35" single fullered blade with a secondary fuller near the spine. The ricasso is stamped "N. J US D.R. 1864" & "AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MASS". Standard 2 branch brass hilt with a partial post Civil War knot attached. Wire wrapped leather grip. Plated steel scabbard with 2 post Civil War leather sword hangers attached to the rings. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina and the hilt has a pleasing mustard patina. Grip is a bit worn but the wire is complete. Scabbard exhibits a few shallow dents. (02-26721/BF). NON-GUN. $500-700.
