20TH CENTURY. A very fine example of an M1875 Marine Corps officer's saber of the WWI era, or a few years before, that measures 39 1/4" overall with an etched 31 3/8" blade. The blade is etched with various patriotic and foliate c motifs with "UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS" ON EACH SIDE. Gilded brass mameluke hilt with 2 star rivets in each grip. Glided brass mounted plated iron scabbard with unassociated chain connecting the suspension loops. A leather sword knot accompanies the saber but is not attached. CONDITION: blade has substantial original factory polish. The hilt and scabbard mounts retain traces of their original gilded finish. The grip has yellowed a bit with age. Scabbard plating shows light wear. (02-25090/BF). $400-600.
