Cal. 303 British. S #6109. Bbl. 28". This is one of 20,000 Ross rifles purchased by the U.S. government to train American troops during WWI. Left side of receiver is marked "ROSS RIFLE CO. QUEBEC, CANADA 1905 PATENTED". MK2 rear sight marked "PATENT PENDING" and graduated to 2200yds. Blade front sight w/ hood. Bayonet lug & stacking swivel present. Provision for bottom sling. Mag. has Harris thumb actuated follower. Additional swivel present on follower. Walnut stock set w/ two piece handguard. Buttplate has sliding trap. Top of wrist marked "13" over "2" over "42". Underside of wrist marked w/ "U.S." "Flaming bomb" and "6109". Right side of butt marked w/ Quebec roundel, "II", "5*" denoting MKII five star model, "962" over 1909" "BC", & "34" over 42" over 1/12". CONDITION: stock set has original finish w/ 1/2" crack at rear of handguard, scattered scratches, handling marks & dings. Front part of handguard is darker in color & loose. Bbl. & bands turning gray w/ generous traces of original blue and some areas of oxidation. Receiver & bolt turning gray w/ scattered traces of original case colors & some light oxidation. Bottom metal shows oxidation staining throughout w/ a couple areas still remaining bright. Good bore showing light frosting but strong rifling. (22-2477/MJC). CURIO. $300-500.
