OF SUTTON MASS. Cal. 69. NSN. The 44 1/2" round barrel affixed with three spring retained bands is marked "US" eagle over "CT" in oval stamp and "V" at rear. "V" is also stamped on barrel tang. Lock with arched beveled flat plate has pointed tail and is fitted with reinforced cock, integral rounded pan, bridled frizzen and feather spring with small spear finial. All lock parts bear the same assembly stamps and lock is in its original configuration. An eagle over "SUTTON" is at center and "1811" is stamped horizontally on tail. Walnut stock with fluted comb is iron mounted and no markings are noted on fittings. Original type button ramrod and screwed on sling loops are present. CONDITION: good to very good. All iron parts exhibit smooth brown patina with some scattered light pitting. Stock shows old cleaning and reoiling over a very large number of marks and dings; some quite deep. There are some chips and missing wood along barrel channel. Bore is relatively smooth with some light pitting toward muzzle. Lock is good. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
