RECONVERSION. Cal. 69. S# NSN. The 44-1/4" barrel has bayonet lug/front sight 1" back from muzzle and is stamped "US" "CT" eagle head & "V" at rear. Touch hole has been drilled in large bushing. Flint lock with slightly chamfered flat plate with teat has faceted pan and feather spring with bulbious finial. Lock is marked "US" small eagle & "EXETER" in front of cock, as well as "J&CB" vertically at rear. Walnut stock with handrail comb has left side deeply dished in "1812" style. No inspector's marks are found. Stock is iron mounted and mounts are unmarked. Trigger guard with rounded finials has sling stud. Sling loop has been removed from center of three spring retained bands. CONDITION: good as expertly reconverted. Barrel presents even brown patina with very deep pitting at right side of breech end the result of chlorate salts in percussion caps. Drum and nipple conversion well concealed with aged vent bushing. Lock converted with brazed in pan has replaced frizzin, cock and feather spring which have been attractively and evenly aged. Wood shows old worn finish with many marks and bumps. It is basically sound however, there are many chips, cracks and losses around lockplate. Bore is rusted. Lock is good. An attractive musket. (01-25594/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
