MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S#191149. Bbl. 24". Rifle was manufactured at Rock Island Armory in 1906. Barrel marked behind front sight "AV flaming bomb 2-19" indicating that the barrel was a field replacement after that date. The "AV" indicates the Avis Barrel Company which made replacement barrels during WWI. "R" marked ladder aperture rear sight assembly graduated to 2850 yards. Blade front sight with protective ears. Receiver not drilled for "Hatcher hole". Bolt is "R" marked Model 1903-A3. Cutoff marked "R". All milled furniture except stamped buttplate. "S" type walnut stock without grasping grooves has 2 recoil bolts. Faint "P" proof under grip. CONDITION: stock set has arsenal rework finish with softening of edges and moderate wear and handling marks. Metal retains 70% of its arsenal rework finish with thinning and wear. Bore has lightly frosted appearance with moderately worn lands. (24-5338/RW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
