MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 40". Blade front sight. Dual leaf rear sight. Rear of lock has 1864 date. Center of lock has eagle and "U.S. SPRINGFIELD" markings. Bolster also has eagle marking. Top bbl. flat has an 1864 date. Left rear bbl. flat has "VP" and eagle proofs. Case-colored lock assembly. Balance of other parts are in-the-white. Tang of buttplate marked "U.S." Walnut stock with two partially faded inspector cartouches on left side and bottom-mounted sling swivels. Left side of the butt has two stamped numbers that read "8708" and "45." Tulip-shaped ramrod is present. CONDITION: stock has an older added finish with a couple chips, scattered dings, and handling wear. Lock has strong traces of case colors with overall fading to gray, some oxidation, light dings, and dried grease. Balance of metal is turning gray with scattered light pitting, oxidation, and dried grease. Action appears to function properly when hand-cycled. Bore has strong rifling with some light oxidation and pitting. (01-25592/MJC). ANTIQUE. $900-1,200.
