Cal. 45-70. S# 440175. Bbl. 29 1/2". Blade front sight. Buffington rear sight. Breechblock marked "US MODEL 1884". Blued & case colored finishes. Walnut stock with faint 1889 dated cartouche on left side, a faint white paint rack number & a white painted "9" both on right side of butt. Only one stacking swivel present, no sling swivels present. Brass tag around trigger guard that reads "WFM/17/MADE IN USA/WM" possibly from museum or other collection. Ramrod present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: M1873 socket bayonet with 18" blade, scabbard & worn "NGP" leather frog. Bayonet has traces of what appears to be an old reblue with scattered oxidation & pitting. CONDITION: stock shows a couple patches of paint splatter around lower tang, a few gouges, scattered dings, handling marks & a few small chips. Metal retains 30-40% blue & case colors with overall fading to gray, scattered edge wear, light dings & oxidation. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bore shows some light pitting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis (01-27482/MJC). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
