RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 3660764. Serial number partially enhanced in white. Bbl. 24". Replacement barrel marked on left side "S-A-4-52". Throat gauges 1.0. Muzzle gauges less than 1.0. Receiver manufactured in early 1945. The rifle & telescope were unsealed from DCM packaging at time of cataloging. The M1C sniper rifle was produced during WWII from late 1944 to August 1945. Some of these rifles were rebuilt during the Korean War between July 1951 & June 1953. The Marine Corps adopted the rifle in 1951 as the MC52. The M1C was phased-out in favor of the M1D after 1953. The M1C features a Griffin & Howe scope mount attached to the left side of the receiver. This mount has a quick detachable feature being secured by two locking levers. The scope rings carry an M84 telescopic sight. T105E1 aperture rear sight. Blade front sight w/ protective ears. All Major parts markings are "SA". Sight cover & rear of operating rod have green chalked numbers not related to rifle. Buttstock is unmarked hardwood replacement. Handguards are walnut. Scope is marked on the left side "TELESCOPE / M84 / SERIAL NO. / boxed 39854". Scope is complete w/ hinged sight covers, sliding sunshade, new (OS) & rubber eyecup. Reticle is untapered post plus crosshair. Blued steel sliding mount is marked "GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK" & "1932" patent date. Mount is numbered on the right side "3640475". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching "CMP" shipping box which includes the rifle & scope packaging. Additional items included in original sealed wrappers w/ Case, telescope, M84, flash hider, sling & 5 section cleaning rod. Items not in original wrapper include web sling & leather lace-on cheek pad marked "MRT 1 52". Buttstock cleaning kit includes chamber brush, bore brush, rod handle, rod tip & plastic oiler. CONDITION: stock set has light wear & staining w/ scattered handling marks. Replacement buttstock has arsenal overhaul type finish. Metal retains 95% of its arsenal rework parkerized finish w/ very light high point wear. Scope retains a large degree of its original finish w/ very light wear. Mount including rings, which shows evidence of fitting to scope base, has light wear & scattered small tool marks. Optics appear clear & serviceable. Very good shiny bore w/ sharp lands. PROVENANCE: three sheets from the CMP including a laminated transfer card, data sheet & a DCM basic issue items for the M1C rifle. This sheet is dated "1994" & has the matching rifle & telescope serial numbers. There is also a computer generated print from the rifle's previous sale at auction. (25-5160/RW). CURIO. $2,000-3,000.
