RECONVERTED FROM PERCUSSION WITH BAYONET. Cal. 69. S# NSN. 44 1/4" barrel held by three spring retained bands is marked "P" eagle head and "V" at breech end. Barrel has had drum and nipple conversion removed, plugged and area redrilled for touch hole. Lock with chamfered plate having pointed tail is fitted with flat faced chamfered and reinforced cock with curled spur, inset faceted pan, frizzen with curled toe and feather spring with bulbous finial. Center of plate is engraved "US" eagle "SPRINGFIELD" in arch. Tail is marked "1804" vertically. Lock has been reconverted using old parts that have a great original look. Walnut stock with handrail comb is mounted with French style iron furniture. Trigger guard has long extensions at front and rear. Buttplate is dated 1804. Sling loops are on stud in front of trigger guard bow and central band. A correctly styled iron ramrod is present. Brass collection tag marked "2M1" is affixed to rear sling loop. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correct type socket bayonet with 14 1/2" triangular blade marked "US" fits musket well. CONDITION: good. Metal parts with overall cleaning to mostly silver with brown and pitted areas. Breech end of barrel shows considerable filing and sanding. Reconversion of lock very well done. Stock with old oil refinish with some subsequent marks is quite sound, except for 1/2" x 1" piece of wood on lock side rear of barrel replaced with plastic wood with subsequent chipping at rear. Bore with some shine and scattered pitting; muzzle shows thinness and denting from ramrod wear. Condition of bayonet is a good match for musket. (01-22769/MGM). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
