SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 50-70. NSN. Bbl. 36 5/8" with barleycorn front sight and 700 yard graduated leaf rear sight. 1866 Dated breechblock with eagle head. 1864 dated Springfield lock. Left side of barrel has "D" inspectors mark. 3 Band walnut stock with visible cartouches on left ear. Slotted tip cleaning rod. Estimated 25,000 were converted from Model 1863 percussion muskets. CONDITION: very fine. White finished barrel and fittings retain most of their polish showing small spots. Lock and hammer retain 70% lightly faded case colors. Breech block has most of its blue. Exceptionally good original wood finish shows a few. Bore is generally bright with strong rifling showing scattered spots of very light pitting. (01-21393/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,250-1,750.
