BLOCK. Cal. 50 CF. S# 860, found on left barrel flat. Bbl. shortened to 23 1/4" carbine style from rifle length. Blade front sight with leaf rear sight. Case hardened action is marked "MODEL 1871" on right side. Right side has American eagle over "US / SPRINGFIELD / 1872". Top tang is marked "REMINGTONS PATENT / PAT. MAY 3d, NOV 15TH 1864, APRIL 17TH 1866". Action is not of the locking type. Band fastened forearm measures 9 3/8" with "JGW" on right side. Walnut carbine stock with sling swivel. Front swivel is barrel band mounted. CONDITION: 90% lightly faded barrel blue. Action has lightly visible case colors fading to mottled patina. Wood has dark aged appearance showing scattered scratches, marks and mildew spots. Bore is generally bright with sharp rifling showing some very light pitting. (01-21405/DS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
