Cal. 45-70. S# 256416. Bbl. 32 1/2". Rifle is marked on receiver and barrel "WC CO", indicating ownership by the Western Costume Company, a notable supplier to the movie industry. It is also notably marked on both sides of the buttstock with an "S" which indicates it may have been property of Stembridge Movie Rentals at some point. Rifle has been converted to resemble a flintlock gun using brass castings, although the hammer will still strike the firing pin, allowing the use of blanks. The rifle will not fire as a flintlock. Rear sight has been removed. Original front sight remains in place. The walnut stock has been coated with a brown coating, resembling paint. Stock has two bands retained by springs. Sling swivels are not present. CONDITION: the rifle shows extensive hard use. The stock has heavy wear, abrasions and chips throughout. The metal has turned overall gray and patina with extensive wear and handling marks. Heavily oxidized bore with no visible rifling. Ramrod is not readily removed. Stock has two small transverse holes, likely to allow for use of rope sling. PROVENANCE: From the PMRB Collection. (01-28430/RW). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
