SINGLE SHOT MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. S# 402495. Bbl. 24 3/8". Rifle barrel shortened and front sight replaced by brass blade with dovetail. Barrel has "VP" eagle head proof. Buffington rear sight is marked "R". Windage knob has been removed from rear sight. Barrel band has been modified by grinding to accept the rear sight ladder when folded down. Receiver manufactured in 1888 has been deeply stamped "60 / F". Low arch 1873 dated breech block. Three position tumbler. Flat lockplate has spread wing eagle and 1873 date. Unmarked walnut stock. Stock has been shortened approximately 2 1/2" ahead of the lower band to achieve a sporter type configuration. Band spring has been retained. Ramrod channel has been filled. Solid "U.S." marked buttplate. Rear swivel is from 1917 Enfield. Front swivel has been installed loosely with hobbyist gunsmith type workmanship. Brown leather sling. CONDITION: refinished stock has moderate wear, scratches and handling marks throughout with notable loss of wood in inletted areas. Doweled repair on top of grip. Metal has turned overall gray with patina and areas of oxidation and shallow pitting. Bore has visible rifling with worn lands and has a frosted, pitted appearance throughout. (01-29408/RW).
