CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. S# 340356. Bbl. 22". S# indicates receiver mfg. in 1886. Low arch breech block is dated 1884 & is equipped w/ the aluminum-bronze alloy firing pin. Buffington rear sight marked "C" & graduated to 1,900 yards. Blade front sight w/ replacement. Carbine is equipped w/ the model 1890 sight protector bbl. band. Three click tumbler. Flat lockplate marked w/ eagle & "US SPRINGFIELD". Bbl. has "VP" eagle head proof. Long comb walnut buttstock w/ trap buttplate. Stock is equipped w/ saddle ring & bar on left side. Boxed "SWP" acceptance mark is faint. Date is not legible. Faint encircled "P" script proof behind trigger guard tang. CONDITION: stock has had a light restorative cleaning & has light wear, staining as well as scattered small handling marks throughout. Metal parts turning generally gray. Lockplate, hammer & breech block show generally more blue finish. Metal has light wear w/ scattered spots of light oxidation. Bore is bright w/ lightly worn lands & areas of very shallow scattered pitting. (01-26362/RW). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,600.
