Cal. 45-70. S# 481436. Bbl. 44" with extension. This interesting rifle is a U.S. trapdoor Springfield with an 1884 dated breechblock marked with "WB 81389" on top of barrel indicating a movie prop gun used by Warner Brothers. The rifle has been heavily modified in the general style of an Arabic Jezail while retaining the original lock. The sights have been removed and an extension sheet metal and brass has been soldered to the end of the barrel for visual effect. The buttstock is heavily modified to be carried hooked under the arm. Buttplate, trigger guard bow and upper guard band have all been removed. Barrel retention is accomplished by copper wire wrappings soldiered in place. Brown leather carrying strap. CONDITION: stock shows extensive wear, dents, scratches and handling marks while retaining a legible U.S. acceptance mark. Metal retains traces of original blue with heavy wear turning gray and patina. Bore is heavily oxidized and has no visible rifling. PROVENANCE: From the PMRB Collection. (01-28411/RW). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
