Cal. 45-70. S# 514135. Bbl. 32 1/2". Bbl. has faint eagle proof on left side. Rear sight is not present. Blade & stud type front sight. Rod bayonet is present. Bridge block date is illegible. Flush lock plate marked "US SPRINGFIELD" "eagle". 3 position tumbler. One piece trigger guard missing its swivel bow. Swivel bow is present on upper band but is distorted. Stacking swivel on upper band is not present. Walnut stock w/ faint "SWP 1891" boxed inspector's mark. Faint encircled script "P" proof under grip. Buttplate has trapdoor which is not readily opened. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 18" triangular blade Model 1855/70 socket bayonet w/ leather Civil War contract scabbard made w/ brass tip. Leather belt attachment is marked on reverse side w/ partially legible ''JB THAXTER PORTLAND MAINE". J.B.Thaxter made 10,000 sets of infantry accoutrements during the Civil War. U.S. marked bayonet has light wear & oxidation turning gray & patina. Bayonet has scratching &scuffing. Worn brass tip has turned overall patina. CONDITION: stock has moderate wear, staining & handling marks throughout w/ a light restorative cleaning. Notable missing chips at forward end of channel. Hole in left side of forend appears to be from a nail. Sm. crack behind rear of lockplate. Worn metal has turned overall patina w/ oxidation & light pitting. Dark worn bore w/ pitting throughout.
