S# 187216. Bbl. 22". blade front sight. Left side of front sight base has pin. "C" marked Buffington rear sight graduated to 1900yds. The 1890 designation is a collector's term for earlier carbines that were arsenal altered w/ the later barrel band. 1873 marked low-arch breechblock. Left side of stock has saddle bar & ring. Rear of bbl. has "VP", eagle & "P" markings. Walnut stock w/ 1890 high hump barrel band. Left side of stock has strong "SWP" 1882 dated acceptance cartouche. Bottom of grip has strong circled "P" firing proof. CONDITION: stock has a large abrasion on left side behind band, stock otherwise shows scattered dings & handling wear. Breechblock retains strong traces of case colors w/ overall fading & some light oxidation. Balance of metal retains about 30% arsenal blue w/ overall fading to gray & scattered light oxidation. Good bright bore w/ scattered oxidation & light pitting but strong rifling. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22532/MJC). ANTIQUE. $1000-1500.
