RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 696520. Bbl. 24". Replacement barrel is marked behind front sight "SA/ flaming bomb/ 7-42". The receiver dates to 1917. The ladder rear sight assembly which is marked "R" for Remington is mounted on a Remington base w/o lightening cuts. Blade front sight with 2 piece base. Receiver has 4 center punch marks near the serial number. Remington Model 1903-A3 bolt assembly. Milled upper band, stacking swivel and screw are not present. Stamped lower band and butt swivel. Fine checkered milled buttplate. Small bow stamped trigger guard. Walnut stock set. Buttstock is M 1903-A3 type w/o grasping grooves and is unmarked. Vintage military style leather sling with wear and cracking. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Nickel plated oiler in butt. Paperwork from the CMP detailing the history, use and care of the Model 1903 rifles. There is an envelope containing several colored pictures of this rifle. An NRA reprint for the Model 1903 Springfield rifles and an August 2018 American Rifleman magazine with an article on the Model 1917 rifles as used in WW1. Two invoices for spare parts for the 1903 rifle, a spare safety and magazine spring and follower. The rifle comes with a green padded zippered case. CONDITION: stock set has a good appearance with only light wear and scattered handling marks. Metal retains 75% of its vintage arsenal rework finish with thinning and light wear. Bore has strong sharp lands with frosted grooves. (25-805/RW). CURIO. $500-800.
