MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1188989. Bbl. 24". Marked behind front sight "SA / flaming bomb / 3-20". The rifle, with its ejection port in the left rail, retains the correct magazine cutoff and double sear trigger. These modifications were to accommodate the WWI era Pedersen device. Bolt with its swept handle is marked with "J" under the safety lug and "O" under the bolt handle. Ladder rear sight without volley notch graduated to 2,850 yards. Flat windage knob is marked "R". Front sight blade has been replaced with a sporting bead type. The bead insert is no-longer present. All milled furniture with fine checkered trap buttplate. Smooth trigger. The present walnut stock set has a very nice original finish with crisp markings. The stock is marked on the left side with boxed "JFC" acceptance mark and is marked in the cutoff recess with both "F" and "A". The stock, however, has the single rear recoil bolt and does not have the distinctive cut of a MKI stock at the ejection port. The single recoil bolt was added in mid 1917 with the second bolt added at the front in 1918. Brown leather military style sling. Sling with brass hooks is unmarked. CONDITION: stock set has a very nice appearance with crisp legible markings, small scattered handling marks throughout. Metal retains 60% of its original worn blue finish. Bore is shiny with lightly worn lands. (26-1351/RW). CURIO. $800-1,200.
