MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 1031979. Bbl. 24". Very early production barrel, marked behind the front sight "RIA", a flaming bomb, and "7-06". Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yards. Flat windage and elevation knobs. Blade front sight. Receiver has an added marking on the left side at the front, which appears as an oriental character followed by "6-38". Remington-marked replacement bolt. All milled furniture. Non-matching walnut stock set. Buttstock is from 1903-A3 production with brass reinforcing pins. UNNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: nickel-plated oiler in the butt. CONDITION: stock set shows hobbiest gunsmith type fitting, notably around cut-off recess and attempts to tighten the barrel bands. The finish has some added gloss over the wear and numerous handling marks. The metal has wear and is turning overall gray with small areas of cleaned oxidation. Bore has moderately worn lands, turning dark in the grooves. (24-3906/RW). CURIO. $700-1,000.
