RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. S# 186294. Bbl. 26". Barrel marked behind front sight "W / flaming bomb / 2-18". Ladder rear sight graduated to 1,600 yards. Sight slide is marked "W". Bolt and cocking piece both marked "W". Left receiver rail has two "eagle head" acceptance marks and the ordnance "flaming bomb". Walnut stock set. Buttstock has "eagle head" acceptance mark under grip and "W" under stock tip. Buttstock additionally marked with "D" ahead of buttplate tang. Brown leather WWI era Model 1907 sling. One keeper is replacement. Markings are faint. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 16 1/2" fullered blade bayonet, 21 1/2" overall, marked on left ricasso "1917" and encircled "W", marked on right ricasso "eagle head" acceptance, "flaming bomb" and "X" over "US". Bayonet has walnut grips with two transverse grooves secured by two screws. Bayonet has been sharpened and shows light wear with scattered handling marks. Scabbard is not present. Also included is a nickel-plated oiler in butt. CONDITION: stock set has moderate wear and handling marks throughout with a small amount of added finish. Metal retains 40% of its original worn thinning blue with scattered areas of peppery oxidation. Very good shiny bore with sharp lands. (25-6899/RW). CURIO. $600-900.
