Cal. 9mm. S# 6-0003. Bbl. 16". The P.A.W.S. ZX6 Carbine was manufactured in Salem, Oregon by Bob Imel, who had a long interest in the Sterling design. In 1967, the process was initiated with Sterling to import their L2A3 SMGs into the United States, but the Gun Control Act of 1968 banned their importation for sale to civilians. Moving forward, Imel started the process w/ Sterling, to manufacture them domestically, utilizing their tooling & parts. When the deal had not been consummated by the mid-1970s, Imel founded Police Automatic Weapon Services (P.A.W.S.) & began making them himself. The ZX5 & ZX7 were the first models out, and while very similar to the L2A3 outwardly, he had simplified the trigger mechanism from necessitating 36 moving parts, to needing only 3. A few hundred were made in 9mm & 45ACP, but the National Firearms Act of 1986 would provide another spike in the coffin of domestic machine gun manufacturing. Imel quickly designed a closed-bolt, semiautomatic carbine model w/ a 16.5" barrel & the Model ZX6 was born. It utilized unmodified Sten 9mm magazines. This example exhibits a matte gray finished receiver w/ blued barrel. The shoulder piece of the butt stock still retains that familiar wrinkle style, dark black finish. Barrel retained w/ a barrel nut, similar in fashion to the Uzi style of barrel retention. Protected post front sight. Integral brass deflector. Right side reciprocating charging handle. Left side safety, just rearward of trigger. Windage adjustable protected peep, rear sight. Bottom folding shoulder stock, allowing function in any position, extended or collapsed. MAGS: 5 steel 30 rd & 2 steel 20 rd. Sten mags. CONDITION: Finish coverage complete & consistent w/ only gentle sign of prior use in the form of thinning in areas of mechanical intervention & a few light drag lines. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Mag catch may need to be replaced as it only lightly interfaces w/ inserted mag. unless additional pressure is exerted. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (25-2224/JZ). MODERN. $700-1,000.
