CLASSROOM TRAINING MODEL. S# 47. Mfg. 1982. An enormous military classroom training version of the iconic Colt M16A1, select fire rifle. This classroom model of the M16A1 is an enlarged reproduction of the actual weapon. Partially segmented in order to gain visual access to internal parts which are revealed in their position of the cycle of operation. The sheer enormity of this display is difficult to fathom from only a written or verbal description and must be seen in person to be appreciated. From the birdcage flash hider to the rear of the shoulder stock, it measures almost 80" in length. The entire internal fire control group from the chamber back, including the buffer & recoil spring is completely functional in order to assist students in understanding this time honored weapon system. Double size plastic rds. are fed from a double size magazine for an almost unobstructed view of the symphony of moving parts happening w/in the receiver. The detail in the trigger mechanism includes the factory selector & auto sear that can be viewed through a window in the lower receiver during operation to help the user better understand exactly what is happening each time the trigger is depressed. In a single stroke of the charging handle, used as typically pulled rearward, or by the use of an additional handle through the left side of the stock, the bolt carrier travels to the rear depressing the buffer spring, and upon moving forward, extracts a round from the magazine, chambers it and coincides w/ the position of the selector, in semi or fully automatic. Returning the bolt to the rear extracts & ejects the fired cartridge, starting the process over again. Transport case has id tag printed w/ the following; " U.S. ARMY / PROJECT MANAGER / TRAINING DEVICES / ORLANDO, FLORIDA / T/A RIFLE M16A1 / DVC NO 09-13 / CONT NO N61339-31-C-0016 / MFR BELL PRODUCTS INC MARLBORO MASS. / STOCK NO NSN 6920-01-067-1681 / SN 47 / YR 1982". MAGS: 1 Double Size 20 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 12 oversize 5.56 rounds / large military transport crate / several spare springs / double size bipod / pistol grip mounted display stand. CONDITION: everything seems to be complete from the huge training rounds & magazine, to the bipod & transport crate. Due to the size it is much more fragile than the much smaller original counterpart, and has a few areas where electrical tape has been added to ensure parts fitting like they should. All internal parts operate correctly and it functions as it was originally intended. From the finish to the furniture everything looks great as it was clearly stored correctly and well cared for. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18628/JZ). NON GUN. $1,200-1,800.
