FIRST MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 38-55. S# 254. Mfg 1894, first year of production. Receiver has the rare "10 o'clock screw" located at the top rear of the loading gate which is found on nearly all M1894s up to the 800 S#. 26" Octagon bbl. is fitted with a Lyman no. 4 hunting front sight, original semi buckhorn rear sight having replacement elevator & Full length mag. tube. Rifle is stocked with a Walnut forearm & straight grip stock with smooth crescent steel buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: letter from the Cody Firearms Museum detailing the following information, "Serial number applied on October 25, 1894 / Type: Rifle / Caliber: 38/55 / Barrel Type: Octagon / Trigger: Plain / Received in warehouse on November 16, 1894 / Shipped from warehouse on December 07, 1894, Order number 3485". CONDITION: metal has faded to gray showing scattered very light pitting. Heavily worn wood has added finish over dents, marks & scratches. Stock has large chips on both sides of top tang w/ crack running through left side of wrist. Dark bore shows light pitting & retains intact rifling. (01-24808/DS). ANTIQUE. $3,000-4,500.
