REVOLVER, "CAPT. D. DAILY". Cal. 32, S# 173. Standard early 2 pin Smith & Wesson No. 2 army revolver, 5" barrel, part of 1st 200 made June 1861. Inscribed on butt strap in fancy script "Capt. D. Daily". There are two possibilities for Union soldiers with that name, the most likely being David W. Daily, who entered the war as a captain July of 1861, about the time this revolver was manufactured. He served one year resigning as Lieutenant Colonel July 22, 1862. The 22nd Indiana most prominent at the Battle of Pea Ridge Arkansas, March 1862 with their Lieutenant Colonel Hendricks being killed, Captain Daily was promoted Lieutenant Colonel to replace him. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: small file of research & correspondence. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & matching serial numbers and assembly markings, retaining strong traces of original blue, grips sound with inside toe glued repairs.
