FLINTLOCK PISTOL DATED 1842.54 Cal. NSN. Standard configuration of the last US martial flint pistol, 8-1/2” bbl, iron mounted, finished in the white, small elliptical brass front sight, oval raised integral rear sight, “US / JH / P” inspection stamped at breech. Lock & battery case colored, blued frizzen spring. “US / R. JOHNSON / MIDDn CONN / 1842” stamped forward of cock. This was among the last of these made & scarce survivor as most converted to percussion. CONDITION: very fine overall, some original finish, barrel cleaned to bright w/ light pitting at breech fine stock w/ raised grain, 2 crisp cartouches “WAT” & “JCB”. Mechanically fine w/ bright smooth bore. PROVENANCE: Dr. Fred Novy Collection. (01-20909/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
