US ARMY SEMI AUTO PISTOL RIG. Cal. 45 ACP. S# 555854 (Dec. 18, 1918). Per Colt factory letter, this pistol was in a 500 gun shipment to the Chief of Ordnance in Washington D.C. shipped Dec. 18, 1918, over a month since the Nov. 11, 1918 Armistice. This pistol's correct features include: dark brushed blue finish, Type 1 dbl. diamond walnut checkered stocks, Type B recoil spring guide, Type A slide lock, Type C mag. release lock, Type C safety lock tab, Type C hammer, Type 1 flat mainspring housing, Type 2 mainspring housing pin, short tang grip safety, long type trigger, Type A front sight & Type B rear sight. 5" Bbl. marked "H" & "P" separately on top side horizontally along w/ "5" on bottom of bbl. & "C" on left lug. Top of frame has "H", "3" & "G" proofs along w/ eagle "S17" proof behind trigger & "40" assemble number on lower portion of trigger guard. "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" marking above S#. MAGS: 1 two tone 7 rd. w/ pinned base & loop. Mag. has fair appearance showing fading blue from cleaning along w/ spots of pitting throughout. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter. Russell Sept. 1918 tan web belt w/ G. & K. 1918 tan holster (inside flat stamped "JBR") & P. B. & Co. 10-1918 dbl. mag. pouch. Belt & pouch in very good condition. Holster in good condition showing wear, flaking of finish & patina. CONDITION: very fine. Over 98% blue on slide w/ light edge wear & couple of marks on edges. Front grip strap has fading blue mixing w/ brown patina; balance of frame has over 80% blue showing wear along slide lock friction area. Very good to near excellent grips show scattered flattened diamonds. Very good to near excellent bore showing starting of frosting of grooves. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Jon Thomas. (23-1634/MD).
