Cal. 80bore (.39). S# 870. Bbl. 5.5”. Standard configuration, octagonal blued British proofed barrel, “L.A.C” with viewing proofs. Blued frame engraved “Kerr’s Patent 870” on right side, “LONDON ARMOURY” in small cartouche on left. Case colored lock, hammer, & trigger, loading arm finished bright. Checkered & varnished walnut grip, butt cap is blued. First model Kerr’s were made up to about S# 1000. After S# 1000, revolvers are 54 bore & most were sold to the Confederacy. This is a beautiful cased revolver made just prior to Civil War retaining most of its original finish & fine original casing. You won’t find another example much better. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Green baize lined compartmented oak casing with round vacant brass plaque in lid, fitted for “80” bore marked brass mold with blued steel sprue cutter, Dixon pewter oiler, unmarked bag flask, wood & brass cleaning tool, wood handled screw driver, large lacquered cap tin with Ely label. Lid has 8” x 4.5” original “Kerr New Patent Revolving Pistol” label with red over stamp “SOLE MANUFACTURERS / THE LONDON ARMOURY COMPANY, LIMITED”. CONDITION: revolver is very fine, retaining 90% plus original bright blue finish, most muted case colors, loading lever retains most factory finished bright polish, crisp markings, fine grips with most all original factory varnish. Mechanics crisp, sliding safety fine, bright shiny rifled bore. Casing internally fine, sprue cutter retains about half its thinning blue, cap tin label is badly chipped & scuffed and a green label can be seen under it, label has small reduction where rubbed against cylinder. Casing externally sound, well fit, scattered small cosmetic blemishes, missing key escutcheon. (01-22977/JS). ANTIQUE. $4,000-5,000.
