Cal. 44. S# 4920. This rifle was made just after the US martial contracts in 1864. Standard configuration, 24" octagonal barrel, integral magazine tube, pivoting muzzle section for loading, folding long range rear sight, German silver blade front sight, stamped "HENRYS PATENT. OCT. 16, 1860" / "MANUFACT’D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT." & SN “4920” forward of sight. Stocked in varnished walnut, brass crescent buttplate with trap for cleaning rod, “Henry bump” just under inset sling swivel. This is beautiful survivor retaining original blue & varnish, smooth fine frame. CONDITION: fine overall, all original & matching, barrel has strong traces of blue, about 5% especially in protected areas, balance mottled plum/gray patina, brass mostly smooth, sharp edges, minor pry marks at top of side panels. Hammer retains muted case colors, lever & trigger smooth brown patina. Stock is fine with scattered cosmetic blemishes retaining 80% original factory varnish. Mechanically fine, strong rifled bore. Most Civil War produced Henry’s saw hard use and rarely have any finish. (01-21620/JS). ANTIQUE. $30,000-40,000.
