MADE FOR A COUNT. Cal. 16x16 (2-3/4")/8x72R. S# 148 (right side of locking tab on barrels and in barrel channel on action). The 27-7/8" barrels are fitted with checkered full length rib holding pop-up "V" notch rear and silver bead sights. Claw scope bases are also fitted. Top of rib is engraved "G.L. RASCH BRAUNSCHWEIG" on scrolled ribbon. Scroll engraving is at breech ends. Collath slide in tilt action with horn covered front pivoting lever is fully engraved in a checkered pattern with dots punched at the center of each diamond giving a very elegant appearance. Maker's name and address are on scrolled ribbons either side of action. Toggling wing safety is at top of grip and rifle selecting lever is at right side of horn trigger guard. Drilling is fitted with double triggers (front trigger set). Attractive dark, stump and fiddle figured European walnut horn capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4" over checkered horn buttplate. Stock features small shadow line right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering and sling loop on toeline. Top of comb is fitted with cartridge trap with checkered engraving matching action surrounding relief engraved monogram initials "JR"(?) surmounted by a crown of a Count. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .669. R .668. Restriction: L .021 (mod). R .014 (light mod). Wall thickness: L .026. R .030. STOCK: DAH: 3-1/8". DAC: 1-3/4". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14-1/4". WEIGHT: 7 lb. 0 oz. CONDITION: fine "as found". Barrels retaining most of their original blue with browning and loss for normal handling. Action retains most of its coin finish; difficult to access because of unusual decoration. Stocks retain most of their original oil finish; checkering moderately worn. Horn remains in good condition without insect damage. Bores are very fine; bright and shiny with some minor orange peel toward breech ends. Rifle bore is also very fine with sharp rifling throughout. Mechanically fine. These incredibly strong actions were quite popular in Germany and Austria with production continuing into the early 20th Century. Fine condition examples are relatively scarce.
