TOOLED SHEATH. 19” overall, 13” clip point blade made from file, 0.3” thick, 3” clip, 6” beveled top edge, 3.5” crossguard with lanyard hole, bulbous oak grip with iron ferrule & oval cap. Nicely carved in grip “WALTHALL”. There are lots of Walthall’s in army, General Edward Walthall commanded famous Mississippi brigade and the 3 initials pressed into sheath may be a Mississippian in his brigade. This knife is among the best cutlered Confederate bowies you will find and original beautifully tooled sheath. CONDITION: fine overall, blade is gray with original tool marks, staining & pitting. Sheath retains most of its original brown finish, tight stitching, belt loop is sound with chipped finish. (02-17666/JS). $4,000-6,000.
