BAYONET & SHEATH. This is among the best examples of this interesting Confederate bowie. The sheath is as good as can be found. Originally in early 1862 these were ordered to be put on converted sporting arms, but order was changed so the muzzle rings are never finished & served as side arms. Configuration unique to New Orleans w/ rosewood grip, brass mounted handle & sheath mounts, 12" clip point blade. CONDITION: fine overall, mostly blade bright w/ thin old sharpening one edge, brass has smooth chocolate/olive patina, wood grip fine as is sheath w/ light craquelure & good brown color, sheath missing sewn belt loop & each mount missing 2 pins. (02-16092/JS). $3,000-5,000.
