CARBINE. Cal. 6.5 Jap. S# 02762. Bbl. 19". Blade front sight with protective ears. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2000m. Very fine example of a third variation, Type 44 carbine, retaining a high degree of original finish. Matching serial numbers on receiver, bayonet housing, floorplate, bolt handle, and safety. Matching assembly numbers on bolt latch and extractor. Rear sight assembly numbers match themselves as-is proper. Firing pin is unnumbered, and the dust cover is mismatched. Receiver top has fully intact mum and Type 44 markings. Left side of the receiver has the first series marking, serial number, and Kokura Arsenal symbol. Blued finish with strawed small parts. Third-variation folding bayonet assembly with stacking hook. Asian hardwood stock set with left side sling swivels. Underside of stock has strong kanji inspection stamp. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: two-piece cleaning rod present in buttplate trap. CONDITION: front of handguard has a 2" crack at front; stock set otherwise retains a high degree of Urushi finish with scattered dings and handling wear. Bolt assembly shows some scattered oxidation staining. Rear sight base, trigger, floorplate latch, and bolt takedown latch retain a high degree of straw finish with some oxidation staining. Balance of metal retains 90% original blue with pitting on dust cover, scattered light fading, and handling wear. Action screws exhibit some slot damage. Action functions properly when hand-cycled.
